When I married into the ranch life 27 years ago, I had no idea raising cattle was such an art, was so much fun and was so much work! Nor did I ever in my wildest dreams imagine I would enjoy hanging out with cows and calves, but here I am, and I do.
Originally a city gal, it has been a steep learning curve for me, but now that I am a seasoned ranch wife, I have developed the stealth and cat-like agility of a ninja when it comes to being around cattle. Well… sort of… I know how to leap on the fence when a cow gets mad, and how to avoid head butts to my stomach when I bottle feed a calf — I just turn sideways and take it in the hip.
I have learned a lot of stuff along the way, and most of all, I learned to love being a rancher’s wife and living and working on an Eastern Oregon cattle ranch.
